Soren Boysen

Dr. Søren Boysen is a Professor of Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM), affiliated with the Department of Veterinary Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences. Since joining UCVM in 2009, he has combined clinical work at the Western Veterinary Specialist and Emergency Centre with teaching responsibilities at UCVM's CARE Centre. He is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care and an internationally recognized lecturer.

Dr. Boysen's research focuses on two main areas: emergency point-of-care ultrasound for rapid diagnostics and management of hemorrhagic shock, including lactate as a biomarker and alternative intravenous access techniques. His work integrates clinical applications with advancements in critical care protocols.

His publications from 2017–2019 highlight expertise in ultrasound-based diagnostics (AFAST/TFAST), ventilation support, transfusion medicine, and trauma management. Themes include improving outcomes for shock patients through perfusion monitoring and optimizing emergency interventions.
