معرفی
Sorcha Nic Lochlainn is a Lecturer in the Department of Modern Irish at University College Cork (UCC). She specializes in Gaelic song traditions across Ireland, Scotland, the Isle of Man, and the Gaelic diaspora, with a focus on women’s songs, Jacobite ballads, and transnational cultural exchanges. Her research explores how songs reflect social structures, migration experiences, and linguistic adaptations.
She holds a BA (2005), MA (2007), and PhD (2011) in Celtic Studies from Queen’s University Belfast. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies, she joined UCC in 2014.
Her research interests include laments, lullabies, labor-songs, and the transformation of songs across variants. She has published on topics such as emigrant experiences in Gaelic song and the Gaelicization of classical ballads. Her work bridges folklore, ethnomusicology, and gender studies.
No scientific awards are explicitly listed, but her contributions to Gaelic cultural studies are significant. She teaches courses on Gaelic song, folktale, and Scottish Gaelic language.
