Dr. Sophie Russell is a Lecturer in Social Psychology at the University of Surrey's Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, serving as Deputy Associate Head of Education for the School of Psychology. She holds a PhD in Social Psychology from the University of Kent and joined Surrey in 2013 after lecturing at Kent.

Research Interests: Her work focuses on moral emotions (guilt, shame, disgust, anger) and their impact on social behavior in contexts including political engagement, motherhood perceptions, food choices, and prejudice interventions. She investigates how moral emotions can foster positive social relations and influence behavior change in areas like pandemic compliance and sustainable diets.
Publications: Russell's recent articles analyze emotional dynamics in social relationships, cultural influences on moral reasoning, and interventions for prejudice reduction. Her research demonstrates consistent themes exploring how emotions shape interpersonal behavior across diverse cultural and social contexts, with practical applications in health communication and relationship counseling.
Supervision: Actively advises postgraduate students including Ruairi Patterson, Ece Tunc, and Olivia Sterry. Previously supervised Daniel Noon, Mona AlSheddi, Fatima Ozeto, Chuan-Ren Chung, and Michal Frackowiak.
