Sophie Moore is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography & Anthropology at Louisiana State University (LSU), and Faculty Advisor to the Geography and Anthropology Undergraduate Society. She holds a PhD from the University of California, Davis (2018), an MA from San Francisco State University (2008), and a BA from Reed College (2002). Her research focuses on political ecology, environmental justice, and the socio-ecological dynamics of post-plantation geographies in the Caribbean and Gulf Coast.
Her work examines intersections of race, power, and capital through ethnographic and historical lenses, with a focus on Haiti and the Gulf Coast. Key themes include agrarian change, environmental justice, and the legacies of plantation systems. She is affiliated with LSU's Critical Ecologies Research Group and PAST PLES Lab, contributing to interdisciplinary environmental and geographical studies.
Moore's recent publications explore infrastructure and agricultural intensification in Haiti, post-plantation geographies, and gender dynamics in political spaces. Her scholarship bridges environmental humanities, human geography, and Caribbean studies, emphasizing decolonial and justice-oriented frameworks.
