Professor Sophie Erlund is a Danish-born visual artist and currently holds the position of Professor of Art in Architecture at TUM since January 2025. Her work integrates sculpture, video, installation, soundscapes, and virtual reality to explore themes like perceptual mechanics, 'More Than Human' concepts, and AI's psychological impact. She is affiliated with TUM School of Engineering and Design and collaborates with interdisciplinary networks globally.
Education: Degree in Sculpture from Central St. Martin's College of Art and Design (London). Research involvement includes the 'Experimenting, Experiencing, Reflecting' (EER) project at Aarhus University (2019–present). She has collaborated with Studio Olafur Eliasson, developing creative strategies through curatorial engagement with scientists, anthropologists, and philosophers.
Teaching roles include positions at Julius Liebig University Giessen (BA Fine Arts), Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin (MA Fine Arts), Berlin University of the Arts (MA Architecture), and University of Aarhus (Anthropology). Key awards include multiple Danish Arts Council grants and the Carlsberg Foundation's Semper Ardens grant.
Her research emphasizes cross-disciplinary collaboration, experimental creative processes, and the intersection of art with emerging technologies. Current work focuses on virtual reality and AI's societal implications through immersive installations and public exhibitions across Europe, Americas, and North Africa.
