Dr. Sophie Day is a Senior Research Associate at the University of East Anglia's School of Environmental Sciences and a member of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research. She is currently seconded to North Norfolk District Council, leading strategic support for the Coastal Transition Accelerator Programme (Coastwise), which focuses on transitioning coastal communities facing erosion. Her work emphasizes adaptive coastal governance, blending policy, practice, and community engagement to build resilient futures.
Dr. Day holds a Doctor of Science from UEA (2005), focusing on visual communication and climate change engagement. She has held roles including Research Fellow at the University of Southampton and Senior Consultant at Atkins Ltd. Her expertise spans over two decades of research on coastal adaptation, sustainable futures, and climate resilience.
Her research interests include coastal erosion management, policy implementation, and the interplay between communities and governance frameworks. Key projects include the internationally recognized Bacton to Walcott Sandscaping Scheme and the Tyndall Coastal Simulator. In 2024, she won the UEA Innovation Award for her work on Coastwise.
