Sophia Rooij is a Professor at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Medical Sciences and a member of the Lifelong Learning, Education & Assessment Research Network (LEARN). She has held the role of Principle Investigator since 2015, contributing to UN Sustainable Development Goals through her research in geriatrics and delirium. Her work focuses on improving patient care for elderly populations through innovative clinical tools and assessment methods.
Research interests include delirium mechanisms, geriatric care, and the development of digital health solutions. Recent projects explore neuroinflammation in aging models and the accuracy of delirium diagnostic tools. She has supervised PhD candidates such as Leroy Schreuder, focusing on delirium mechanisms using mouse models.
Her contributions to healthcare innovation include the Digital Patient Benefit Assessment Scale (P-BAS) and studies on fatigability in hospitalized older patients. She actively engages in academic collaborations and public health discussions, as seen in media contributions on digital healthcare and elderly care policies.
