Sophia Ananiadou is a Professor in the School of Computer Science at the University of Manchester, where she serves as Director of The National Centre for Text Mining (NaCTeM), the world’s first publicly funded text mining center. She leads interdisciplinary research at the intersection of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning, with applications spanning biomedicine, public health, environmental science, law, and social sciences. Her work emphasizes computational terminology, information extraction, and neurosymbolic methods, resulting in tools like TerMine and Acromine that are widely adopted in academia and industry.
