Soo-Young Leam

Soo-Young Leam is a PhD student at The Courtauld Institute of Art researching Lee Seung-Taek's avant-garde art contributions in post-war Korea. She holds teaching roles as a Lecturer for Ewha Woman’s University and Yonsei University Art in London Programmes during summers, and previously volunteered as a lecturer at the Fitzwilliam Museum Outreach Programme.

Education: PhD in History of Art (2014–present), MA in History of Art (2012–2013) at The Courtauld Institute of Art; B.A. Hons. in History of Art from the University of Cambridge.

Research focuses on identity politics, East Asian historiography, postcolonial studies, and memory studies. Her thesis examines Lee Seung-Taek’s anti-concept/non-sculpture theories and their socio-political contexts, using archival access to his works.

Awards include the Stavros N Niarchos Foundation (2014–2015) and Cambridge Overseas Trust Scholarship (2009–2012). She has presented at conferences such as Sotheby’s Institute of Art (2015) on Korean art and USC on memory politics in East Asia.
