Sonya Osborne is an Honorary Professor at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Southern Queensland (Ipswich Campus). With nearly 30 years of post-registration nursing experience across acute care, ambulatory, and academic settings, she specializes in implementation science and knowledge translation within nursing and health services. Her research focuses on improving organizational capacity for sustainable practice change to enhance patient outcomes.

Her research spans integrated care across local, regional, and rural communities, including teledermatology implementation for melanoma monitoring and criteria-based decision-making in hospital bed allocation. Clinically, she investigates perioperative nursing practices, opioid-induced hypothermia risks, and retained surgical items' long-term impacts.
Dr. Osborne serves as:
- Editor for the Cochrane Wounds Group
- Editorial Board Member for the American Journal of Infection Control and Journal of Perioperative Nursing
- Visiting Research Fellow at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital
She supervises HDR students in Health Services Research and Nursing, with accreditation for Honours, Masters, and Doctoral programs, and has led 8 completions.
