Sonya Bilocerkowycz is a Lecturer of English and Creative Writing at SUNY Geneseo, joining the faculty in 2019. She holds an MFA from The Ohio State University and has served as a Fulbright Fellow in Belarus and an instructor at Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv. Her work focuses on creative nonfiction, poetry, and Eastern European themes, with notable publications in Guernica, Ninth Letter, and the New York Review of Books.
Her book On Our Way Home from the Revolution: Reflections on Ukraine (Mad Creek Books/Ohio State University Press) earned the Gournay Prize. Teaching specialties include advanced nonfiction workshops (e.g., Speculative Nonfiction, Lyric Essay) and an upcoming Ukrainian literature course (Spring 2023).
