Sonja Opper is Professor of Global Strategy and Institutions and the DeAgostini Endowed Chair of Corporate Strategy at Bocconi University's Department of Management and Technology. She received her PhD in Economics from the University of Tübingen and previously served as Gad Rausing Professor of International Economics and Business at Lund University.
Her research explores how individual effort, social networks and local institutions contribute to business success differentials, using transition economies like China as natural laboratories. She employs mixed methodologies including manager surveys, laboratory experiments, and social network analysis.
Professor Opper teaches courses on Business Management in China and Institutions and Global Strategy, focusing on how companies navigate diverse institutional environments.
