Sonja Mayrhofer is an Associate Professor of Instruction at the University of Iowa's Tippie College of Business, where she teaches Business Communication and Protocol. She is also affiliated with the Frank Business Communication Center. She has previously held roles in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, including Associate Professor of Instruction in Rhetoric and Assistant Director of the Conversation Center.
She earned a Ph.D. in English and a Master of Arts in Comparative Literature from the University of Iowa, and a Bachelor of Arts in English and History from the University of Prince Edward Island.
Her research interests include business communication, rhetoric and persuasion, audience-focused storytelling, public speaking, and curriculum development. She brings an interdisciplinary and international perspective to her teaching, shaped by her studies in Austria, Canada, France, and the United States.
She is an active member of the Association for Business Communication and has presented on intercultural dialogue, undergraduate engagement, and the role of archives in teaching and research.
