Dr. Sonia Boscolo is a Principal Senior Research Fellow and Affiliate Professorial Researcher at Aston University's Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AiPT) within the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences. She holds a PhD in Photonics from Aston University (2002) and an Italian Professor qualification (2025). Her work bridges nonlinear science and photonics, focusing on ultrafast fiber lasers, nonlinear pulse dynamics, and machine learning applications in photonics. She leads major international projects like the NATO-funded MELITE initiative and the Erasmus Mundus EMIMEP programme. Boscolo has authored over 260 publications and supervised four PhD students, while also contributing to curriculum design and international academic collaborations across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Russia.
- Roles: Principal Investigator on 5 grants, Programme Director for BSc/MPhys Applied Physics and MSc Communication Systems.
- Education: BSc/MSc Physics (University of Burgundy, 1998); PhD in Photonics (Aston University, 2002).
Research interests include nonlinear wave theory, optical signal processing, and ML-driven optical systems. Awards include Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (2013). She manages AiPT labs and chairs the AiPT Women’s Chapter, emphasizing interdisciplinary innovation in photonics and optics.
