Somnath Bhowmick

Somnath Bhowmick is an Associate Research Scientist at the Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C) of the Cyprus Institute (CyI). His expertise lies in physical chemistry, quantum chemistry, and molecular dynamics. He holds a doctoral degree in quantum chemistry, focusing on energy calculations and excited state dynamics in lithium clusters, followed by postdoctoral research on low-temperature reaction kinetics relevant to astrochemistry and environmental science.

His current research investigates quantum chemical descriptions of nanocluster formation and their applications in catalysis, sensors, and atmospheric processes. Key projects include studying atmospheric nucleation dynamics and pollutant adsorption on nanomaterials like boron nitride nanotubes and silver clusters.

Bhowmick’s work bridges computational modeling (DFT, molecular dynamics) with experimental insights. His recent publications explore topics such as polychlorinated naphthalene regulation in urban atmospheres, aerosol ionic clusters, and gas adsorption on nanomaterials.
