Somaia Mohamed, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine. She holds roles as Associate Director of the VA Northeast Program Evaluation Center and Faculty at the New England Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center (MIRECC). Her research focuses on mental health outcomes in veterans, particularly suicide prevention, treatment-resistant depression, and disparities in care. She leads large-scale studies like the VAST-D trial evaluating antidepressant strategies and has pioneered work on intensive case management for serious mental illnesses. Mohamed earned her MD from Cairo University (1981) and PhD from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (1997), followed by postdoctoral training at Yale and University of Iowa.
