Dr. Sohan Gyawali is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Technology Systems at East Carolina University. He previously served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Texas Permian Basin from 2020 to 2022. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (2020).
Dr. Gyawali's research focuses on cybersecurity applications in networked systems, particularly in the areas of misbehavior detection, intrusion detection systems, vehicular communication networks, and explainable AI for security applications. His work integrates machine learning approaches with traditional security principles to develop advanced detection mechanisms for modern network environments.
His recent publications demonstrate expertise in applying deep learning techniques to IoT security and developing distributed neural network approaches for DDoS detection in vehicular communication systems. Dr. Gyawali is actively involved in the academic community as a reviewer and technical program committee member for leading journals and conferences in his field.
His teaching portfolio includes courses on Intrusion Detection Technologies, Cryptography, Advanced Network Security, Wireless Security, Data Analytics, and Machine Learning.
