Sohail Ahmad is a Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow's School of Social & Political Sciences, affiliated with the GCRF Centre for Sustainable, Healthy and Learning Cities and Neighbourhoods (SHLC). His work focuses on low-carbon urban development, socio-spatial exclusion in South Asian cities, and the nexus between housing, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability. Prior to this role, he held research positions at the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (Berlin) and the United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies (Tokyo).
Education: Ph.D. in City Planning (Seoul National University), Master of Planning (Urban Planning, School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi), BArch (Hons, Aligarh Muslim University).
Research Interests: Low-carbon urban strategies, urban emissions modeling, housing inequality, spatial econometrics, and sustainable transportation. His publications span interdisciplinary topics including energy-efficient urbanization, climate change mitigation, and informal settlements.
Awards: World Social Science Fellow (2014), Green Talent Awardee (2013). Grants include leadership on projects like 'Lockdown Pains & Mass Exodus: Rental Housing in Megacities of the Indian Subcontinent' (GCRF, £12,700).
Teaching: Contributes to courses like 'Urban Studies Research and the Dissertation' and 'Designing Places'. Active in academic service as a Recognising Excellence in Teaching (RET) Fellow and member of the School Ethics Forum.
