Sohad Murrar is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), directing the Social Interventions and Intergroup Relations (SIIR) Lab. Her work focuses on designing interventions to reduce prejudice and promote inclusivity through entertainment media narratives and social norms messaging. She collaborates with the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding and the Initiative on Islam & Medicine (Medical College of Wisconsin), addressing discrimination in healthcare and academic settings.
Education: PhD and MS in Social Psychology from University of Wisconsin-Madison; MA in Social Sciences (Comparative Human Development) from University of Chicago; BA in Psychology (with Middle Eastern Studies minor) from Northwestern University.
Research: Examines intergroup relations, healthcare equity, and diversity strategies. Current projects include bias reduction in academic medicine, physician religious accommodation, and media representation impacts. Recent work highlights 'religious minority tax' faced by Muslim clinicians and peer attitude effects on academic achievement gaps.
