Sofie Pauwels

Sofie Pauwels is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, affiliated with the Research Group on Emergency and Disaster Medicine, and serves as an Emergency Medicine Physician at UZB (Universitair Ziekenhuis Brussel). She obtained her Master-after-Master degree in 2023 with a thesis on disaster management indicators, following her initial Master's thesis on emergency department pain management in 2018.

Her research focuses on:

• Patient safety and medication management
• Healthcare simulation training
• Interprofessional education methodologies

Her recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate strong emphasis on emergency department operations, disaster preparedness evaluation, antimicrobial resistance, and interdisciplinary healthcare training. She contributes to EU-funded projects including ESCORT (AI-enabled cross-border emergency healthcare, 2024-2026) and NO-FEAR (emergency medical systems network, 2018-2023). She has supervised multiple student theses and regularly participates in international emergency medicine conferences and workshops.
