Sofia Leoni is a Ph.D. candidate in Urban and Regional Development at the Politecnico di Torino (38th cycle, 2022-2025). She is affiliated with the China Room research group and serves as an external lecturer and teaching assistant at the Interuniversity Department of Regional and Urban Studies and Planning (DIST). Her academic journey spans institutions like Tsinghua University, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Shenzhen University, and Brown University.

Her research explores urban and rural restructuring in contexts of marginality and transition, focusing on intersections of technological innovation, infrastructure, and socio-spatial transformations. She integrates environmental humanities with infrastructural thinking to analyze human-soil and capitalist relations from spatial perspectives.
Recent publications examine Taobao villages, Junpucun's human infrastructures, Chinatowns as relational devices, and cyberpunk's infrastructural anxieties. Awards include the SIU National Conference Best Paper Under 40 (2024) in the Infrastructure session.
