Smokey Fermin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Science at Whitworth University, joining the faculty in 2018. His expertise lies in athletic training, with a focus on musculoskeletal injury prevention, biomechanics, and clinical outcomes research. He holds a Doctor of Athletic Training (DAT) from the University of Idaho, an MS in Athletic Training from California Baptist University, and a BA in Political Science from the University of California, Davis.
His research investigates topics such as contralateral exercise effects on pain and mobility, ankle instability biomechanics, and clinical evidence utilization in athletic training. He has presented at major conferences including the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Annual Meeting and American College of Sports Medicine Annual Meeting.
Fermin's work emphasizes evidence-based practices in athletic training, including patient-reported outcome measures and treatment classification systems for musculoskeletal conditions.
