Slobodan Mirchevski

Slobodan Mirchevski is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FEIT) of the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (UKIM), where he has been employed since 1979. He earned his BSc (1975), MSc (1984), and PhD (1990) from FEIT. His academic roles include serving as Vice-Dean for Teaching (1997–1999) and Vice-Dean for Finance (1999–2001), as well as head of the Laboratory for Electromotor Drives (multiple terms) and the Institute for Industrial Power Engineering (2004–2009). He is an IEEE Senior Member since 2002 and chairs the Macedonian Association for Power Electronics, Drives, and Control.

His research focuses on electromotor drives, control systems, and energy efficiency. He has authored over 150 scientific papers, led numerous research projects on topics like rational energy use in drives and diagnostics of electrical machines. Notable projects include developing soft-start devices and protection systems for motors, optimizing elevator drives, and improving industrial automation.

As an educator, Mirchevski has mentored 100 diploma theses, 5 master’s theses, and 1 ongoing PhD. He has published comprehensive teaching materials on electromotor drives and control, including CD-based resources. He also contributed to curriculum development for electrical engineering programs under EU-funded initiatives.

His applied work includes consulting on industrial systems, such as optimizing pump stations and thermal monitoring of motors. He has held research stays at Erlangen, Milan, and Ilmenau Universities, and actively participates in international conferences, including organizing the ERE-REMS 2010 conference in Ohrid.
