Slim Assen

Slim Assen is a University Professor of Economics at the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations (INALCO) in Paris. He serves as Deputy Vice-President for Research (Open Science, Digital Humanities, Science and Society) and holds research positions at the Europe-Eurasia Research Center (CREE EA 4513) and the Center for Social Science Studies on the African, American, and Asian Worlds (CESSMA UMR 245). His expertise spans International Economics, Eastern European Economics, Monetary Economics, Environmental Economics, and Macroeconomic Policy.

Education: PhD in Economic Sciences (1997, Université Paris I – Panthéon-Sorbonne) and HDR (2014, Université Paris 7 – Diderot). Key research focuses include post-socialist transition, cryptocurrency analysis, green growth, and EU integration dynamics. He is affiliated with multiple academic networks including the CNRS GDR No. 3607 (Knowledge of Central Europe) and the Obsoco Circle.

Research interests emphasize critical analysis of economic systems and their transformations, with notable work on Bitcoin, CBDCs, and degrowth paradigms. His interdisciplinary approach bridges economic theory and policy analysis, addressing contemporary challenges like post-pandemic economic responses and regional disintegration.
