Sky Pike, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Ferris State University's College of Arts, Sciences and Education. He also serves as Director of the Shimadzu Core Laboratory, overseeing advanced research instrumentation. Dr. Pike earned his PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Texas at Austin and a BA in Biology from Cornerstone University.
His research integrates molecular biology, biochemistry, and environmental science, with foci on folate-dependent enzymes, water-quality monitoring (E. coli/viral detection), and neurodegenerative biomarkers. Recent work emphasizes analytical method development for environmental and biomedical applications.
Dr. Pike mentors undergraduate researchers in projects spanning viral wastewater surveillance, lake contamination analysis, and SARS-CoV-2 epidemiology. His publications reflect interdisciplinary collaboration across microbiology, neuroscience, and public health.
Awards include:
- Ruth L. Kirschstein Postdoctoral Fellowship (National Research Service Award)
- Institutional Training Fellowship at Michigan State University
He directs the Shimadzu Core Laboratory, supporting regional research in analytical chemistry and biotechnology.
