Sjur Westgaard is a Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in the Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management. He holds a MSc and PhD in Industrial Economics from NTNU and a MSc in Finance from Norwegian School of Business and Economics. He also maintains an adjunct position at Lillehammer University College.

His research focuses on financial risk management, forecasting for financial institutions and industry corporations, and energy markets. He has managed research projects with power companies and the Norwegian Research Council. He co-founded and edits the Journal of Commodity Markets, and serves as associate editor for Journal of Energy Markets and previously Journal of Banking and Finance.
Teaching expertise includes economics, finance, and economic/financial forecasting.
