Siyuan Huang is an Assistant Professor in Interaction Design at the University of Twente, affiliated with the Faculty of Engineering Technology and a member of the DesignLab. She engages with the Experience Research Society (EXPRESSO) as part of its Executive Committee and contributes to the Delft Institute of Positive Design (DIoPD). Her work bridges design, technology, and psychology to explore digital well-being and behavioral change.
- PhD in Design (cum laude), Politecnico di Milano, Italy
Her research investigates how design and technology shape human interactions with environments and ecosystems. Key areas include digital well-being, behavioral change, and fundamental user needs in design-mediated contexts. She employs virtual reality and multisensory design strategies for sustainable interventions and human-robot interaction studies.
The Fundamental User Needs (FUN) Scales and metaphor-based design approaches represent significant contributions to cumulative design science. Her work spans applications from energy efficiency in virtual environments to sustainable consumption patterns and autonomous product experiences.
Siyuan Huang's academic output demonstrates interdisciplinary engagement across psychology, design research, and human-computer interaction. Her publications from 2017-2025 reveal consistent exploration of need satisfaction theory, sustainable behavior design, and immersive technology applications for energy efficiency and collaborative systems.
