Sixma Titia is an Adjunct Professor (part-time) at Erasmus University Rotterdam and Head of the Division of Biochemistry at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI), Amsterdam. She specializes in structural biology, protein crystallography, ubiquitin pathways, DNA repair mechanisms, and Cys-loop receptors. Elected to the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences (KNAW) in 2008, she also holds EMBO membership and received the prestigious ERC Advanced Grant in 2009.
- Education:
- Ph.D. in Structural Biology, University of Groningen (1992)
- Postdoctoral Fellowship, Yale University (1992–1994)
- Positions:
- Group Leader, Netherlands Cancer Institute (since 1994)
- Sabbatical at Stanford University (2004–2005)
Her research focuses on molecular mechanisms of ubiquitin signaling and DNA repair, with implications for cancer biology. She leads a prominent research group at NKI and has secured major grants like the ERC Advanced Grant.
- Awards:
- NWO Pionier Award (2002)
- Fulbright Senior Fellowship (2004)
Titia Sixma’s work bridges structural biology and clinical oncology, contributing to drug design targeting cancer-related pathways. She is affiliated with the Center for Biomedical Genetics and maintains collaborative networks across Europe and the U.S.
