Sivaselvan Mettupalayam

Mettupalayam Sivaselvan is a Professor in the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering at the University at Buffalo, part of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. His research focuses on computational mechanics, nonlinear dynamics, numerical methods, optimization techniques, and control systems for dynamic hybrid testing. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University at Buffalo (2003), an MS from the same institution (1999), and a BTech from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (1997).

Research Interests: Dr. Sivaselvan’s work spans advanced simulation techniques for structural systems, including real-time hybrid testing, impedance-matching control strategies, and dynamic substructuring. His studies address challenges in nuclear power plant equipment qualification, seismic isolation, railway-structure interactions, and biomedical applications such as red blood cell dynamics. He has pioneered methods for improving the accuracy and efficiency of shake-table and model-in-the-loop simulations.
