Sion Lenton

Sion Lenton is a Senior Lecturer in the College of Digital Arts at Birmingham City University (BCU), where he has taught Games for over a decade. He serves as Academic Lead for Animation, Visual Effects and Immersive and will be part of the core teaching team for BCU's new Games courses launching September 2025.

With over 20 years of AAA game development experience, Sion's industry background includes significant leadership roles as Creative Director at Codemasters, Studio Manager at Sega Europe, and Development Manager at Blitz Games. He has led teams of over 300 developers working on major intellectual properties including Brian Lara Cricket, Micro Machines, Manchester United Club Football, Operation Flashpoint, Barbie, Spongebob Squarepants, Burger King and Sonic the Hedgehog.

His research interests focus on accessibility within games, particularly demonstrating the impact of mental health challenges through game technologies and mechanics. He maintains strong industry connections with game development studios in Leamington Spa ("Silicon Spa"), the UK's largest game development hub, which he leverages for student benefits including studio visits and guest lectures.

Many of his former students have secured positions at major studios including Codemasters, Playground Games, Ubisoft, Sumo and Sega, working as Game Designers, Game Producers, and Programmers.
