Siobhan Howard is an Associate Professor in Psychology at the University of Limerick (UL), affiliated with the Department of Psychology, Centre for Social Issues Research, and Health Research Institute. She also serves as Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs in the Faculty of Education and Health Sciences. Her research focuses on psychological stress and cardiovascular disease, particularly exploring physiological pathways and the reactivity hypothesis. She holds a PhD from National University of Ireland, Galway (2008), and has held academic roles since 2003, including postdoctoral research and teaching positions.
Research Interests:
Dr. Howard’s work examines social and personality factors influencing physiological stress responses, with contributions to refining the reactivity hypothesis. Her paradigm on cardiovascular response habituation has impacted global health psychology research. She also investigates Type D personality and its relation to cardiovascular health.
Teaching:
She specializes in research methods and statistics education for psychology undergraduates, emphasizing scientific inquiry and statistical literacy.
Awards:
Recipient of the Royal Irish Academy Charlemont Award (2016), Early Career Award (2018), and President’s Research Excellence Award (2023).
