Simpa Salami

Simpa Salami is an Associate Professor of Urology at the University of Michigan Medical School. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, followed by a Master of Public Health at Harvard University. His clinical training includes a General Surgery Internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Urology Residency at Hofstra Northwell Health School of Medicine, and a Urologic Oncology Fellowship at the University of Michigan. Dr. Salami is a board-certified Urologic Oncologist with expertise in minimally invasive surgery for prostate and kidney cancers.

As a translational surgeon-scientist, Dr. Salami specializes in developing novel cancer biomarkers to address tumor heterogeneity and multifocality. His lab collaborates globally to understand molecular mechanisms of urologic cancers and disparities, supported by grants from the Department of Defense, National Cancer Institute, and Prostate Cancer Foundation. He has contributed to national guidelines for prostate cancer early detection and PSMA PET imaging criteria.

His recent publications focus on spatial transcriptomics in prostate cancer, biomarker validation for renal cancer, and improving prostate cancer screening. Scientific awards highlight his contributions to urologic research. Dr. Salami actively participates in training and national guideline committees, emphasizing patient-centered care and genomic sequencing in urologic cancers.
