Dr. Simone Weidner is a Researcher at the Department of Environmental Biology within the Faculty of Science at Utrecht University. Her research focuses on microbial ecology, particularly investigating how microbial communities influence CO2 emissions from Dutch peatlands. She is a core member of the NOBV ('National research program on greenhouse gases from peatlands') consortium, aiming to reduce emissions through mechanistic understanding of microbial roles in peat oxidation. She holds a PhD from Utrecht University (2019) titled Linking microbial community assembly and function: diversity, multitrophic interactions and post-disturbance microbiome reassembly.
Her work spans topics such as microbial community dynamics, biocontrol strategies, and the impacts of microbial diversity on plant-soil feedbacks. Key research themes include soil microbiology, climate change mitigation, and biodiversity conservation.
