Simone Riis Porsborg is an Associate Professor at Aalborg University's Department of Health Science and Technology within The Faculty of Medicine. Her research focuses on regenerative medicine, particularly using adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) under hypoxic conditions to develop therapeutic solutions for chronic wounds like diabetic foot ulcers. She coordinates master's projects in Medicine and Medicine with Industrial Specialization programs.
- PhD in Clinical Science and Biomedicine (2016): Focused on ASC applications in chronic wound treatment
Research emphasizes stem cell heterogeneity, bioprinting for tissue regeneration, and translational medicine. Key projects include the EU-funded STRONG-UR initiative (2024-2028) aiming to advance bioprinted tissue solutions. Awards include the Diabetesforeningens Forskningslegat 2018.
Current projects explore ultrasound therapy for scar reduction and electricity-stimulated stem cells for chronic wound healing. She supervises multiple research initiatives including potency assays for ASC-based medicinal products.
- Labs/Teams: Collaborates with Pennisi's Bioprinting group and Zachar's Stem Cell Research Lab
