Simone Pisana

Simone Pisana is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at York University's Faculty of Science. He is actively involved in research and graduate supervision, leading the HEATED Lab, which focuses on heat and electron transport in nanoscale systems. His work is aligned with experimental condensed matter physics and nanotechnology, with applications in energy efficiency and magnetic recording.

His research interests include nanostructured materials, nanoscale carbons (such as graphene and carbon nanotubes), magnetism, magnetic recording, heat transport, and optical pump-probe techniques. He investigates thermal and electronic properties in novel materials to improve the performance and energy efficiency of electronic devices.

His lab has developed advanced FDTR techniques reaching ~200 MHz modulation frequencies and employs beam-offset and MOKE methods for anisotropic heat measurements.

He has supervised several master’s students to successful thesis defenses, including Aaron Kammula, Sina Tahbaz, and Fatemeh Bayat. Current and incoming students such as Anna Skrinnik, Partik Chahal, Jasveer Dhillon, and Tanvi Jain are engaged in projects ranging from isotopic separation to magnetization dynamics.
