Simone De Liberato

Prof. Simone De Liberato is a Professor of Quantum Nanophotonics and Royal Society University Research Fellow at the University of Southampton's School of Physics and Astronomy. He leads the Quantum Theory and Technology group, focusing on ultrastrong light-matter interactions in nanoscale devices. His research bridges foundational quantum mechanics with applications in quantum and classical technologies, including mid-infrared sensing and photonic materials. Notable contributions include predicting and observing Landau polaritons and photon-bound excitons, establishing world records in light-matter coupling strength.

He holds a Royal Society University Research Fellowship and has received the Philip Leverhulme Prize (2018), Prix Daniel Guinier (2009), and Dean’s Early Career Award (2014). As a serial entrepreneur, he serves as Chief Technology Officer of Sensorium Technological Laboratories, advancing mid-infrared quantum sensing technologies. He teaches the Module PHYS6012 on quantum optics and technologies, covering optical coherence, entanglement, and quantum algorithms.
