Professor Simona Radutoiu leads the Plant Molecular Biology group at Aarhus University's Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics. Her research focuses on symbiotic plant-microbe interactions, particularly nitrogen fixation mechanisms in leguminous plants. She currently directs two major projects: 1) InRoot (2019-2025) examining molecular dynamics at root-soil interfaces, and 2) ENSA (2017-2028) developing sustainable agricultural symbioses.
Her interdisciplinary work combines genetics, biochemistry and biotechnology to decode signaling pathways between plants and microbes. Key research areas include receptor kinase functions in symbiosis recognition, metabolic profiling of root exudates, and genetic regulation of nodule development.
Professor Radutoiu received the prestigious Adam Kondorosi Academia Europaea Award in 2016 for her contributions to symbiotic nitrogen fixation research. Her laboratory utilizes advanced genomic and metabolomic techniques to characterize plant-microbe communication systems.
