Simona Aimar is a Lecturer in Philosophy at University College London (UCL), equivalent to a permanent position akin to an Assistant Professor in the US. She concurrently serves as Vice-Dean for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Her academic career includes visiting roles as Assistant Professor at Columbia (Barnard) and fellowships at Harvard, Princeton, NYU, and Berlin's Free University. Aimar’s research focuses on ancient and contemporary metaphysics and semantics, particularly Aristotle’s work, while expanding into social metaphysics, AI ethics, and gender studies.
Her writing spans academic journals and public platforms like Times Literary Supplement, Fortune, and OpenDemocracy, addressing topics from Italian political dynamics to refugee integration. Notable works include a Socratic dialogue critiquing Donald Trump’s views on women and analyses of gender representation in Italian politics. Aimar co-founded Living Voices, an NGO aiding ex-prisoners’ reintegration, reflecting her commitment to social equity. She also co-launched the #FirstGenPhilosophers initiative to amplify underrepresented voices in academia.
Her scholarly projects include a book on Aristotle’s metaphysics of modality and collaborative work on techne (craft). Outside academia, Aimar teaches philosophy in prisons, advocating for education’s role in justice reform. Her work bridges ancient thought with modern social issues, emphasizing philosophy’s relevance to contemporary challenges.
