Dr. Simon Teune is a research fellow at the Centre for Technology and Society at Technical University Berlin, specializing in democracy, civil society, and social movements. His career includes roles at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center and the Initiative for Institute for Protest and Movement Research. He completed his PhD at Free University Berlin in 2013 with a dissertation on anti-summit protest repertoires.
His research focuses on protest dynamics, transnational activism, and media discourse analysis. Notable projects include studies on G8 protests, the Stuttgart 21 protest survey, and documentation of German protest history (PRODAT project). He coordinates the 'Social Movements, Technic, Conflicts' area at TU Berlin.
Key publications include The Transnational Condition (2010) analyzing European protest networks and Nur Clowns und Chaoten? (2008) examining media framing of G8 protests. His work bridges sociological theory with empirical studies of contemporary social movements.
Teune also serves as spokesperson for the DVPW social movements working group, managing their blog and social media channels. Current initiatives include developing the Institute for Protest and Movement Research.
