Dr. Simon Taylor is a Reader (0.5 contract) at the University of Glasgow, affiliated with the School of Celtic and Gaelic and the School of Critical Studies. His research focuses on onomastics, early medieval insular history, and the cult of saints. He co-leads the Leverhulme Trust-funded 'REELS' project, investigating Old English and Older Scots through place-names.
His work spans interdisciplinary studies of place-names as historical and linguistic evidence, with a strong emphasis on Scotland’s linguistic and cultural heritage. Notable contributions include studies on Flemish settlement patterns in Clydesdale, Pictish toponymy, and medieval parish structures.
Key publications include The Place-Names of Berwickshire (forthcoming 2025), Glasgow’s Gaelic Place-Names (2023), and numerous articles on regional toponymy.
