Professor Simon Shaw is a faculty member at Brunel University in the Department of Mathematics, affiliated with the College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences and the Brunel Institute of Computational Mathematics (BICOM). His research focuses on computational simulation methods for partial differential Volterra equations arising in viscoelasticity problems, with recent interdisciplinary work applying computational mathematics and machine learning to noninvasive coronary artery disease screening.
He leads the Applied and Numerical Analysis Research Group and contributes to structural integrity research at the Institute of Materials and Manufacturing. Key research themes include finite element methods, temporal discontinuous Galerkin approaches, and fractional calculus applications in mechanics.
His academic career spans from a craft mechanical engineering apprentice to professor, with publications in top journals like Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering and Advances in Computational Mathematics. He maintains an active research profile with over 40 publications and technical reports.
