Dr. Simon Segar is a Senior Lecturer in Entomology at Harper Adams University, UK, and holds a PostDoc position at the University of South Bohemia’s Faculty of Science. With a PhD from the University of Reading and postgraduate training at University College London, his research focuses on evolutionary ecology, chemical ecology of insect herbivores, and speciation processes in figs and their pollinators. His work bridges plant-insect interactions, community phylogenetics, and biodiversity conservation.
Research interests include understanding plant and insect diversity through multi-disciplinary approaches, examining mutualisms and antagonisms in tropical ecosystems, and addressing global insect decline. Key projects involve fig-wasp systems, phylogenetic analysis of herbivore communities, and genomic studies of endangered dipterocarps. He is affiliated with the Royal Entomological Society and the Higher Education Academy.
Publications span topics such as fig mutualism dynamics, arthropod biodiversity monitoring via DNA metabarcoding, and insect metabolic adaptations. Collaborations include institutions in Panama, Papua New Guinea, and Southeast Asia, emphasizing tropical fieldwork and long-term ecological studies. His work addresses both fundamental evolutionary questions and applied conservation challenges.
