University of Readingمعرفی
Simon N. Chandler-Wilde is a Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Reading's Department of Mathematics and Statistics. He leads research in wave scattering, numerical analysis, and boundary integral methods. Active in the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, his work bridges theoretical and computational aspects of acoustics, electromagnetism, and fractal geometry.
Education: BSc (Imperial College London), MSc (Newcastle University), PhD (University of Bradford).
Research Interests: Focuses on scattering by rough and fractal surfaces, high-frequency numerical methods, and operator theory. His work emphasizes boundary element methods, integral equations, and spectral analysis.
Key Contributions: Pioneered numerical-asymptotic boundary element methods for high-frequency scattering. Authored over 100 publications, including influential papers on fractal scattering and coercive boundary integral formulations. Awards include the Frank J. Rizzo Award (2024) and Tyndall Medal (1996).
Awards: Elected Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales (2025), R W B Stephens Medal (2025), and numerous grants from EPSRC and EU. Served as Head of Department (2007–2010) and Dean for Diversity & Inclusion (2015–2019).
Grants: Led projects on acoustic networks, seismic modeling, and scattering by rough surfaces. Current EPSRC funding includes the UK Acoustics Network Plus (2020–2024).
Professional Affiliations: Institute of Acoustics, SIAM, London Mathematical Society. Active in mentoring and promoting diversity in STEM.
