Simon Lewis is a Professor of Cognitive Neurology at Macquarie Medical School (Macquarie University). He is a clinical academic specializing in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia with Lewy Bodies, combining patient care with research. He holds key external roles: Chair of the International Consortium for Freezing of Gait (since 2024) and Clinical Lead for the Australian Parkinson's Mission (2019–present).
His research focuses on improving treatments and understanding neurodegenerative diseases through neuroimaging, neurophysiology, neuropathology, chronobiology, and biomarker studies. Current projects include disease-modifying drug trials and predictive symptom analysis. His work is funded by the NHMRC, ARC, and the Michael J Fox Foundation.
Key research interests span Parkinson’s Disease, dementia subtypes, gait disturbances, sleep-wake disorders, and hallucinations. He leads the NSW Movement Disorders Brain Donor Program and mentors junior clinicians and researchers. Recent publications emphasize clinical trial outcomes, osteoporosis management in neurology patients, and innovative interventions for mobility challenges.
