معرفی
Professor Simon Holford is the State Chair in Petroleum Geoscience at the University of Adelaide's School of Physics, Chemistry, and Earth Sciences. He leads the Stress, Structure & Seismic (S³) Research Group, focusing on applied GeoEnergy challenges such as carbon capture and storage (CCS), geomechanics in sedimentary basins, and magmatic systems. His work spans structural geology, basin evolution, and fluid flow dynamics.
Research interests include magmatic interactions with petroleum systems, geomechanical impacts of CCS, and the geology of Australia’s southern rifted margin. He has contributed to IODP expeditions and collaborates internationally. Current projects involve CO2 mineralization in volcanic rocks, hydrogen storage geomechanics, and paleoceanographic studies using seismic and drilling data.
He supervises PhD and Honours students on topics like CO2 storage security, volcanic CO2 sequestration, and basin-scale geodynamics. His grants include funding from ARC, ARENA, and industry partners. He is based at the University of Adelaide’s Mawson Building, North Terrace campus.
