Simon Gervais is a Professor of Finance at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, where he has served since 2003. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor at the Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania). He holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of California, Berkeley (1997). His research focuses on behavioral finance, corporate finance, and financial markets, examining how behavioral biases influence firm and individual decisions, financial market regulation, and intermediary roles. He has been recognized with the Barclays Global Investors/Michael Brennan Award and teaching accolades in MBA programs. Currently, he serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Financial Intermediation and previously led the Financial Intermediation Research Society (FIRS) and advised FINRA's Economic Committee (2010–2016).
Research interests include behavioral biases in corporate and individual decision-making, financial market regulation, and intermediary dynamics. His recent work (2020–2023) explores monitoring in financial contracts, ethics in financial advisory markets, transparency in money management, and cognitive decline's impact on financial choices. Earlier studies addressed overconfidence effects, IPO security design, and mortgage-backed securities incentives.
Professional service includes editorial roles at top journals and leadership in academic societies. Teaching excellence is highlighted through awards in executive and daytime MBA programs.
