Simon Dunn is a former Research Fellow at the University of Queensland, specializing in coral reef ecosystems and climate change impacts. His research focuses on cellular mechanisms of symbiosis, gene expression in cnidarians, and coral resilience under environmental stress. He holds a BSc(Hons) from Queen Mary University of London (1998) and a PhD from Newcastle University (2002).
- Education:
- BSc(Hons) in Marine and Freshwater Biology, Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London (1998)
- PhD in Cellular Mechanisms of Cnidarian Bleaching, University of Newcastle upon Tyne (2002)
His work explores multi-scale reef dynamics, coral symbiont interactions, and historical DNA patterns to predict future reef survival. Key research themes include the genetic basis of thermal tolerance and socio-economic consequences of climate change on fisheries and coastal communities.
Recent studies highlight his contributions to understanding coral bleaching mechanisms and the disproportionate impact of climate change on vulnerable populations. His research aligns with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies, though his primary affiliation was with the University of Queensland.
