Marilena Simiti is a Professor of Political Sociology at the Department of International and European Studies, University of Piraeus. She holds an MA in Comparative Politics from Columbia University and a PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her research focuses on political participation, civil society dynamics, social movements, and urban riots, particularly in the context of economic crises. She has been a Visiting Fellow at the Hellenic Observatory (LSE) and serves on editorial boards of academic journals and international advisory bodies like CONCORD.

Her research emphasizes the interplay between economic conditions, institutional challenges, and grassroots activism.
