Dr. Simin Moradmand is a Researcher in Chemical Engineering at the University of Newcastle, specializing in electrochemical solutions for sustainability. Her work focuses on CO2 capture/utilization, green energy, and zero-emission iron production. She holds a PhD from the University of Newcastle (2022) and an undergraduate degree from the University of Mazandaran, Iran. Dr. Moradmand leads a BHP-funded project on molten salt electrolysis for decarbonizing iron production and collaborates with industries like Tomago Aluminium and BHP. She has taught courses in Energy Transfer, Sustainable Engineering, and Renewable Energy at UON.
Key Achievements:
- Developed methods to generate green electricity from coal via DCFC technology while capturing CO2
- Identified additives reducing carbon consumption in aluminum production
- Received 2023 BHP Women in Research Award and 2023 UNSW Best Presentation Award
Research Themes: Her projects bridge lab-to-industry applications, emphasizing CO2 electrolysis for battery materials, electrochemical reduction in iron production, and molten salt systems for clean energy. Current work aims to scale zero-carbon iron-making through BHP-funded innovations.
