Silvio Pons

Silvio Pons is a Full Professor of Contemporary History (SSD: HIST-03/A) at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, Italy, where he is affiliated with the Class of Literature and Philosophy. His office is located in Palazzo della Carovana, first floor, room 9, and he holds office hours on Wednesdays from 10-11 am and 2-4 pm, or by appointment.

Professor Pons specializes in 20th-century international history with particular emphasis on communism and the Cold War. His scholarly work bridges historical analysis with political science perspectives, examining the international dimensions of communist movements across national boundaries. His research has significantly contributed to understanding the transnational nature of communist ideology and practice throughout the 20th century.

His publications reveal a consistent focus on the global dimensions of communism, with particular attention to Soviet-Italian relations, the international communist movement, and Cold War dynamics. His works span from detailed studies of Stalin's foreign policy to comprehensive histories of international communism, demonstrating both chronological breadth and geographical scope in his scholarly approach.

Professor Pons has held prestigious academic positions internationally including Visiting Professorships at Columbia University and the European University Institute, and research fellowships at the Hoover Institution, Russian Academy of Sciences, and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He currently serves as President of the Gramsci Foundation in Rome, continuing his engagement with the legacy of Italian communism.
